Compost
Did you know... ... that according to the EPA, yard trimming and food residuals constitute 25% of the waste going into the U.S. landfills?
What is Compost? Compost is organic material that can be used as a soils amendment, or as medium to grow plants. Compost is a stable, nutrient enriched, microbial fillied material with a content called humus that is dark brown or black and has a soil-like, earthy smell. It is created by combining organic wastes (yard trimmings, food waste, and manures) into piles to accelerate the decomposition of the materials. Evergreen Nursery and Garden Center is pleased to offer our own locally produced compost this year.
Benefits of Compost
Where to use Compost? Compost can be used anywhere you wish to improve your soil and it has the ability to help regenerate poor soils. It is also full of beneficial microorganisms and nutrients that will improve the soil structure and benefit the plants around it. Composting will help you reduce the need for water, fertilizer, and pesticides. |
